Too Heavy to Hug #632

Welcome to THTH, Forte’s premier source of all things heavy, hard, fast and metal. Since when did the metal community become such a precious bunch of, well, precious kids? At this year’s Dimebash a drunken Phil Anselmo apparently shouted “white power” and after making a Nazilike gesture on stage. Anselmo then claimed it was a joke, then came out and issued a video apology. Then, I dunno, some Down gig got cancelled and then Anselmo wrote some post about how Down should move on without him, then Pepper Keenan from Down wrote another post and accepted Phil’s apology. This is the sort of public display via the internet kids probably do, and this is the sort of internet back and forth mothers in mothers groups on Facebook probably do.

Let me say if someone wants to be racist for real, or as a joke, then that’s up to them but it’s not up to the likes of Robb Flynn to jump on his high horse on social media behind the guy’s back and rant about it for minutes on end – which is exactly what he did which kicked this whole thing off.

Everyone knows Phil can be a drunken dick at times and talk shit, but if he wants to make an even bigger dick of himself by being racist in any capacity, then let him. Besides, the feud between Robb Flynn and Phil Anselmo, or the feud between anyone and Phil Anselmo, will always continue and the metal community doesn’t need people “calling out” others for their stupidity. Here I was thinking our community was better than those childish sorts of communities.
