Stamp Out And About: Hitting Pause for a Great Cause

I love chocolate. I just LOVE that dark sea salty caramel liquid gold. I’m Armstrong Creek’s Homer Simpson drooling over a donut.

You’re totally smiling now because you know that feeling chocolate gives you – it’s better than sex. Ok, it’s as good as sex. It’s an instant chocgasm.

A family block of Top Deck feeds me and my three children. Those children are still in my fallopian tube – I call them Egg 1, Egg 2 and Egg 3. Should that be Cadbury Crème Egg 1? Fine, I can eat a block of chocolate.

My weekly consumption of this delectable sweet keeps manufactures in business. Lindt, you’re welcome – I’m sure I’ve spent the equivalent of a house deposit curbing my sweet tooth.

While other kids wanted to grow up and become a policeman or own a horse named Princess, I wanted to live with Willy Wonka in his Chocolate Factory.

Bachelor Richie and Alex wasted a perfectly good bath full of chocolatey goodness – just add marshmallows and a straw already!

That’s why February will be the most difficult and the most rewarding month personally. I‘m honoured to be an ambassador for FEBFAST across Geelong and the Surf Coast, and I’ll be hitting pause on sugar.

Don’t know about the cause? FEBFAST is where you hit pause on something of your choice for the month of February. The idea is to feel great while changing the lives of young people experiencing serious disadvantage. Your fundraising means disadvantaged kids can access a youth worker who can help the homeless find a safe place to live, inspire them to go back to school and teach them to live a life without drugs or alcohol.

I have the will to drink a soda lime without vodka. A night out with the girls can be a wine-free affair. The polo on Australia Day… was proudly supported by 6ft6 wines with a guest appearance from a Canadian Club Dry at The Inn.

Sugar however, has a hold on me. I eat healthy lunches and nutritious breakfasts. But since giving up coffee seven months ago, I have swapped one addiction for another. I think I have an “all in or all out” personality. What I need to do is switch my focus on the need to fuel my body with a fake stimulant. It’s time to rip the band aid off.

So February and FEBFAST are my perfect training partners. By making consciously healthy decisions when I meet friends at King Of The Castle, and talking about the work YSAS provides, it will allow young people across Geelong and the Surf Coast to access local services to live a more fulfilling life. That’s an incredibly humbling sacrifice to make.

I will let you know now, if you are looking for me on March 1, I’ll be celebrating at Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery.
