Punk! #638

Wowsers, what a huge couple of weeks in punk rock land!

The 2016 KROQ Weenie Roast on May  14 features a ripper line-up this year! Get this: Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Panic At The Disco, Garbage, Bishop, Empire Of The Sun, Cold War Kids, Nothing But Thieves, Bear Hands and countless more. It might as well just become a fully-fledged festival in its own right, because it’s more than just a party in a radio station parking lot now!

Tired Lion hit the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on Thursday May  19.

Blink 182 are back in a pretty big way this month! Soldiering on after the disappointing Neighbourhoods album and firing of Tom Delonge, the band is back with a pretty good new single called ‘Bored To Death’ – which is taken from the forthcoming new album, California. Fun fact: they ALMOST named the new album Nude Erection. Think about it!

The Guns N’ Roses reunion shows are going great, um, guns. Australian shows are now expected to be announced any day now. Founding member and original rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin has ruled himself out of any involvement, while original drummer Steven Adler, who would give his left nut to be involved, doesn’t seem to stand a chance at this stage, if ever.

Speaking of Guns N’ Roses, rehearsal audio of Axl Rose performing Thunderstruck with AC/DC has found its way onto social media, and you know what? He sounded okay! He might yet make a decent replacement for the slightly ailing Brian Johnson.

Clowns have just completed a run of shows across Europe. It is safe to assume that many beers were sunk! Catch them on tour now with The Bennies and openers Axe Girl from Perth.

Speaking of Blink 182 (earlier on, remember? Keep up!), drummer Travis Barker recently snapchatted a setlist possibly for the upcoming US tour dates! This will be their first-full scale tour with new member Matt Skiba!

Melbourne punks Strawberry Fist Cake are heading to the US this year for a run of shows with Sparklefight.

Sydney queer punx Glory Hole (what a name!) are also heading out on a US tour soon!

After only five weeks in theatres across the globe, Batman V Superman has already been pulled from screens. During its run, it earned 865,000,000. Pretty damn good, albeit a little short of the billion dollars studio heads were expecting. August sees the release of the loosely related Suicide Squad movie, starring emo heart throb Jared Leto as the Joker. I for one cannot wait!

Are the rumours true? Could a Social Distortion tour of Australia really happen later in the year? As much as I doubt it, I can’t help crossing my fingers and toes!

But in slightly more credible news, it appears a WEEZER tour announcement is imminent, in support of their white album!

And that KISS original line-up tour I mentioned? May be more fact than rumour! Stay tuned!

Until next time, punk rock people, don’t be dicks to each other!
