Ballarat Blog #682

A few stinking hot days for locals of late, but nothing a few cold beers can’t placate at the end of a long day. Save the dates of February 16 and 23 as the Ballarat Backyard tasters put on marvellous music and fabulous food at Alfred Deakin Place between 6 and 9pm. Namarilly Bagarook, Butterfunked, Barry Gilson, Origami and The Surf Shadows are just a few of the artists set to perform over the two dates in mid to late February. Hopefully a few punters get along to this and support this event as it is a great incentive put on by the City Of Ballarat.
Melbourne noise-folk-pop whatever rock band Tiny Little Houses will venture up the Western Highway to play a show on February 24. They have a really cool song called ‘Entitled Generation’, which has some classic lyrics and a pretty groovy little video to go with it. The band have a pretty loyal following also, and know how to put on a great show, so get on down to Karova Lounge for this one. It’s a Saturday night, so no excuse not to cut loose.
Melbourne dream-pop band Lowtide will play Friday March 23, as they follow up on the release of their second single Elizabeth Tower. These guys have really carved out an aural signature sound for themselves with pop-laden harmonies and a dash of melancholic, hypnotic vocal work. Their second album Southern Mind will be released just prior to their arrival in Ballarat.
Thundamentals are also pencilled in to play in late March at Karova. Quite a demand for these guys, with the show on March 24 already being sold out. Tickets for their second show on March 25 are selling fast also, so you had better get on your bike if you want to catch these hip-hop dudes from the Blue Mountains. The Decade Of The Thundacat Tour will cover many points of the continent as they endeavour to punch out songs in Canberra, Hobart, Byron Bay, Bunbury and Cairns, just to name a few of their stops.
Don’t forget the Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival will also be on in its usual time slot of Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 of February. Lance Lipinsky, Louis King & The Liars Klub, Miss Kitty & The Memphis Trio, The Detonators and The Cadillac Drifters are just a few of the bands set to rumble over that weekend. See ya!
