Ballarat Blog #659

We are on a roll up here in the delightful surrounds of the Goldfields with some lovely days of warm sunshine still delighting the locals and tourists as summer bids us farewell.
Here’s some great news for anyone brave enough to take the punt. The Australian National Busking Championship is on Saturday 18th March. There is ten grand up for grabs if you think you have what it takes to turn the judges heads and give you the nod. The day kicks off at 9am and goes right throughout the day. More info at facebook.com/buskingballarat.

Suttons House Of Music has been going off like a frog in a sock of late having just hosted Russell Morris & Band on March 3rd. A loyal crowd turned up to watch the old rocker play on a balmy Autumn night in the Rat and nobody left the venue disappointed. My oh my, can his band play! Not to mention some of the very best harmonies I’ve heard for some time. Hopefully you have your tickets already for Beccy Cole who is appearing Friday March 17. Supported by Libby O’Donovan, this is promising to be a great night at Suttons House Of Music for those lucky enough to have tickets.

Up the road at Karova Lounge, Bones and Jones are coming to Ballarat to play on Thursday 16th march . ‘Living Given’ made its way to triple j’s Unearthed Jukebox. With a swinging vibe and a rattlin’ beat, this song will have you feeling like you are back in the 70’s. Aburden are playing on Friday 17th March. Having just released their debut single ‘Face To Face’ and followed it up with another ripping track ‘They Say’. Clean crisp guitars, well… initially and some fairly extraordinary vocals are the feature on this track which is really well produced and recorded. These guys have a powerful sound, are uniquely individual and are definitely stepping outside of the square a little. The walls will be a shuddering at the mighty Karova when these boys roll in to town from Melbourne. Tickets are only only ten bucks and there are four support acts which is damn good value for money.

Latest local coffee haunt is The Turret Café on Sturt Street. Not a very well kept secret, and you may queue for your caffeine hit, but awesome breakfasts are served here and the coffee is absolutely wonderful. Staff are friendly and helpful.
