This brand new festival is Victoria’s answer to Dark Mofo

Winter Wild is the new festival on the block, bringing a world of dark arts to the beautiful surrounds of the Otways.

The program features live music and arts across four weekends, with the festivities kicking off around large ocean-side bonfires before moving in to explore the town of Apollo Bay – that’ll be transformed with roving performers and projection art.

While Apollo Bay may be known traditionally as a summer haven, come winter it’s a very different place. Consequently, the aptly titled Winter Wild festival will celebrate the elements at their most extreme – meaning this is an event not for the faint hearted.

Getting down on the action is a credible selection of acts including Mick Turner (the Dirty Three), performance artist Yumi Umiumare, Michael Leunig and Clementine Ford. It all culminates by going up in flames (yes, literally) with the burning of a festival sculpture.

Further highlights include sets from Tek Tek Ensemble, The Sand Pebbles, Emotion Works and more.

It goes down across four installments from Thursday July 1 to Tuesday August 13. Details via Winter Wild.
