Kicking off this Friday, The Pivotonian Cinema in Geelong is screening some of the best New Zealand flicks created by Taika Waititi.
From June 9 – 18 you’ll get to enjoy Eagle vs Shark, What We Do in the Shadows, Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
The cinema is coining the mini-festival as the ‘Taika Waititi Film Retrospective’, named after the New Zealand film director, writer and actor.
Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople became New Zealand’s top grossing films – and ones that were created by Waititi (also known as Taika Cohen).
In each of the films screening he has played both a directorial and acting role. He’s easily a clear talent in the New Zealand film industry, and it’s cause to celebrate. Join in on the celebrations and familiarise yourself with his work at the Pivotonian Cinema in Geelong.
We’ve summed up the films briefly below:
Eagle vs Shark – two socially awkward misfits and the strange ways they try to find love.
Boy – an 11-year-old child and devout Michael Jackson fan, gets a chance to know his absentee criminal father, who has returned to find a bag of money he buried years ago.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople – a national manhunt is ordered for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush.
What We Do in the Shadows – a documentary team films the lives of a group of vampires for a few months. The vampires share a house in Wellington, New Zealand.
