Nocturnal x Midsumma are hosting a Lunar New Year Disco

Nocturnal and Midsumma Festival present Lunar New Year Disco, a queer street-dance battle hosted by Thailand’s Pangina Heals (Drag Race Thailand) and Taiwan’s Chrissy Chou, curated by Jonathan Homsey.

Contestants will battle it out in the museum, delivering waacking and punking inspired by 1970s Los Angeles gay nightlife which has grown in popularity across Asia.

The night will have two tournaments, a 1 vs 1 waacking battle and a queer performance of Punking Dramatics showdown. Competitors will vie for the eyes of the crowd and judges as we party to disco beats broadcasting on Hope St Radio.

This is a special addition of Nocturnal, Melbourne Museum’s after-hours party where you are invited to explore the galleries after hours, talk with curators and scientists, and see rare back of house collections.

Dress however you identify and wear what makes you feel best in your disco realness! Party and celebrate the Lunar New Year by being you, being visible, and wishing for good fortune with us under the disco ball.

It all goes down on Friday February 7 at the Melbourne Museum. Tickets on sale now.
