Amphlett Lane Named!

Local Geelong rock legend Chrissy Amphlett’s memory was further immortalised today, with Melbourne City Lord Mayor Robert Doyle joining Patricia Amphlett (Little Pattie), Charley Drayton and members of Team Chrissy to officially open a lane in her honour and hand over the ‘Amphlett Lane’ street sign.
The lane is located just off Little Bourke Street between Spring and Exhibition streets. The laneway features a mural by Tassie artist, Peter Gouldthorpe, depicting the most important aspects of Chrissy’s life, including he dogs, as well as a memorial plaque at the entrance to the laneway. The lane adjoins both the site of the Palace Theatre, where the Divinyls played, and the Princess Theatre where Chrissy performed as Judy Garland in The Boy From Oz.
Former Belmont High student, Amphlett, is well known as the lead singer of The Divinyls, whose hits included “I Touch Myself” and “Boys in Town” she passed away in 2011 after a battle with breast cancer and multiple sclerosis . Her presence is also felt in inner-city Geelong with a mural that was painted by local artist, Glen Smith, back in 2014 in Denny’s Place.
