Nancie Schipper releases new single ‘Take Out The Trash’

The past twelve months have been busy for Nancie Schipper. The 19-year old has been hard at work, supporting names like Ball Park Music and Alex Lahey on her regional tour, as well as appearing at BIGSOUND, St Kilda Music Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival. On top of all that, the young musician has released two singles: ‘Long Fall’ and ‘When You Get Home’, the latter of which saw her find a place as a triple j Unearthed High Finalist last year.

Now Schipper is ready to drop her latest single, ‘Take Out the Trash’. Written in early 2019, the indie pop/rock track tackles the topic of mental health. Produced by John Castle (Vance Joy, Angie McMahon), the song has a pretty chill vibe about it.

“I wrote TOTT at the start of this year when I acknowledged my mental health for the first time and actively started doing things to help improve it,” said Schipper. “Sometimes it’s the little things… a clean room, or seeing your friends that can make a huge difference.”

Schipper’s bright telecaster carries the track along, her vocals cutting across for the chorus “Would you believe me if I said I try?”. She showcases her vocal range, fast-paced lyrics leading the song. Following a break-down for the bridge, the single really comes together for the closing choruses. The back-up vocals and dwindling guitar of the closing lines effectively bring it to a stop.

The song is simple in the sense that it doesn’t need any more to it. Schipper’s clear voice bring the catchy chorus to your ear, a steady drumbeat adds a backbone, and harmonising backing vocals tie it all together nicely. It is easily the type of song you’d find yourself humming along too, its melody infectious. Check it out below:

Having spent the last six years building a name for herself, this is just the start of Schipper’s career. If ‘Take Out the Trash’ is any indication, we have plenty of catchy, indie-rock-pop melodies to look forward to.

You can catch Nancie Schipper supporting Great Gable at the Northcote Social Club on November 16 17, and at The Penny Black in Melbourne on January 10 & The Geelong Workers Club on January 11.
