Victorian duo This Way North release new single ‘Night Terrors’

Indie rock duo This Way North are set to release their new single ‘Night Terrors’ accompanied with a film clip by Vanessa Cox.

Duo members Leisha Jungalwalla (vocals/guitar) and Cat Leahy (drums/vocals) create a unique and expansive sound that translates effortlessly from the studio to the stage. Their new single captures the experience of night terrors, this often-indescribable feeling has been perfectly summarised in This Way Norths new single ‘Night Terrors’.

The song was written late last year by Leisha, in the song she describes her personal experience with night terrors and attempts to describe the nightly struggle of living with a sleep disorder.

The song is explosive and infectious, Cat’s powerful drumbeats takes you on a rhythmic journey while Leisha’s vulnerable yet punching vocals float above. Kate Ceberano is a huge fan of these girls and goes to say “What a great song!!!!! Super catchy. I’m such an 80’s gal it reminds me of an early Split Enz song”.

To coincide with the track, the duo have also released a video clip which depicts a selection of dimly-lit rooms and unnerving camera shots.

Directed by Vanessa Cox, the film clip was shot in Brisbane, in an old 1920’s artisan building overlooking the banks of the Brisbane River.

“The thing that really fascinated me in terms of the theme and the sound of the song is that despite being about the darker subject of night terrors the song still has an uplifting sound,” Cox says.

“Night terrors are something that both the band and myself have experienced and so I wanted to communicate to the audience what that feeling is like. For me a night terror often feels like there’s a tremendous amount of weight on you and you’re unable to break free. I wanted the clip to be quite dark and still for the quieter parts of the song but I also felt that supporting the upbeat chorus with light and movement would work well to give a contrast from the feeling of a night terror and the upbeat complexities of the track.”

The duo will be putting on a special event for the launch of their single at Stay Gold on Friday June 14th (Sydney rd, Brunswick) where they will be performing live as well as screening a mini-documentary by Chris Franklin which documents their musical journey and being an independent band.

The single is out on May 31st and tickets for the launch can be found via This Way Norths Facebook page.
