Nocturnal celebrates Indigenous Women with July line-up

Nocturnal is back on the 6th of July to proudly celebrate Indigenous women for NAIDOC Week. Inspired by this year’s theme, ‘Because of her, We can!’, the lineup has been carefully selected and will showcase an array of live music from Thelma Plum, Mojo Juju, Kaiit, and Sovereign Trax.
Award winning singer-songwriter, Thelma Plum has built an notable following since her first release in 2012 and has since spent time in New York, London and Sydney recording a highly anticipated debut album. Plum will draw upon her powerful and hauntingly beautiful sounds of ‘Monsters’ EP at this year’s Nocturnal and will stand strong and sing loud in support of the Indigenous female community.
Also on the Nocturnal lineup is slicked back and oh so stylish, Mojo Juju, who holds a voice that will have your jaw dropped to the floor. She is an artist full of passion and creativity, who refuses to labeled one way or another and promises a heart felt and powerful performance through a blend of noir jazz, soul, rhythm and pop.
Alongside the singing and dancing, NAIDOC Week 2018 is also introducing a brand new exhibition in Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre: ‘Because of her, We Can!’. The exhibition will highlight twelve Victorian First Peoples women who have achieved incredible things and will display objects such as a series of digging sticks and traditional women’s tools. The exhibition also provides valuable background information about the important history of NAIDOC.
Enjoy an array of bands, artists and DJs performing live in the museum, alongside open bars, incredible food, discussions with museum experts and learning opportunities “across collections, cultures and time.”
Nocturnal will run on Friday the 6th of July from 6pm – 11pm at the Melbourne Museum, 11 Nicholson Street, Carlton.
This is an 18+ event
