For Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Tyler Millott, creating music that shines with its own identity has been at the centre of his artistry from day one. Exploring these threads of inspiration and creativity has brought Millott here, the reveal of his new project, The Terrifying Lows (who have dropped a fresh track!)
Debut single ‘Cool With It’ is a powerful step into the spotlight for Millott. Electric guitar comes together with well-crafted melodic grunge that has a smooth edge felt with each listen.
As one of the city’s most accomplished musicians on the road at present, Millott has been honing his talents on stages playing bass for the likes of Ali Barter, while also recording and touring with Husky, Gretta Ray and Ben Wright Smith.
To celebrate the single, Millott gives us the five Aussie artists that inspired ‘Cool With It’.
Having been apart of Ali’s band for over 3 years, Ali is a major inspiration for me. Her nostalgic pop rock sound is exactly what I’m into taste wise. Contributing to the music in whatever capacity has been a real joy for me!
Their album Highly Evolved is in my opinion one of the great Rock n Roll albums of the early 2000s. Their driving guitars, Beatles-esque ballads, and brit pop aesthetic will always be a huge influence on my music! The dream is to work with Rob Schnapf (‘Highly Evolved’ Producer) on The Terrifying Lows’ music one day!
Touch Myself has a been one of my favourite songs for a very long time. There might not be a party I’ve been to where I haven’t put on that song when I get my hands on the AUX cord. Chrissie Amphlet is one of the great front women in rock full stop.
Daniel Johns has been a constant inspiration for me since I first picked up the guitar. His voice, his songs, his versatility. I even loved the shit out of Young Modern when a lot of old fans turned their back on it! I thought it was a beautifully written pop rock album.
I love punk music. And The Saints are one of the great punk bands of all time… and they’re from Brisbane! They also heavily influenced one of my favourite bands, The Hives. I had the pleasure of working with Mark Moffatt (‘I’m Stranded’ Producer) on another project a few years ago!
