Victoria to be powered by Tesla batteries next summer

Let’s just get this out of the way real quick. Tesla’s Elon Musk is a bloody character. When he’s not launching a car playing David Bowie on loop into space, he’s developing technology that could potentially provide a sustainable future for us all.
A set of large-scale lithium-ion batteries will be connected to the grid in regional Victoria by the end of 2019, with a combined generation capacity of 55 megawatts.
Operating out Kerrang and Ballarat, the Tesla batteries will be the first installation of large-scale, grid-connected batteries in Victoria.
What makes these batteries unique is that they can store renewable energy, and funnel it in accordance with the real-time events around them. When the sun goes down, solar power is distributed. When there’s not a breeze in the sky, wind energy is delivered.
Following a commitment of $25 million from the Turnbull government, the implementation marks a significant investment in alternative energy infrastructure.
As time goes on and the technology is tested, there will be capacity for solar farms to be retrofitted with battery storage, while thousands of homes will be able to be powered.
