Our top five acts to see at The Stonnington Jazz Festival

The Stonnington Jazz Festival is back, kicking off on the 10th of May for its 13th year and will features a diverse collection of 100% Australian artists.
Our five must see acts this year are:
Jazz in Colour: Swooping Duck meets Zero Crossing
Exclusively performing for the Stonnington Jazz Festival the three-piece rythm section of Grammy-nominated Hiatus Kaiyote in unison with Zero Crossing. In a show where colour becomes the fourth instrument of improvisation, expect the unexpected.

A Glimpse Behind Closed Doors: Expressions Dance Company + Trichotomy
In a collaboration titled “A Glimpse Behind Closed Doors,” Dance and Jazz Collide for Stonnington Jazz Festival. Queensland’s premier contemporary dance theatre company Expressions unite with Jazz Trichotomy to create this thought provoking collaboration.

A Glimpse Behind Closed Doors_preview
Mad Jazz: Beyond Thunderdome (Music composed and performed by The Shaolin Afronauts)
‘Mad Jazz 3: Beyond the Thunderdome’ is returning to in 2018 to the Astor Theatre for Stonnington Jazz. Experience the cult film Mad Max like never before in an event that brings George Miller’s Astounding Imagination of a post-apocalyptic world with the Jazz fusion of Shaolin Afronauts.

Bjork Interpreted
Cabaret chanteuse Mama Alto, electronic artist Tom Barton, vocal chameleon Georgie Darvidis (Edie Centric) and folk singer-songwriter Hannah Camero are revisiting the work of Icelandics most famous export performing jazz as a part of ‘Bjork Interpreted’. A unique re-imagining from Bjork’s repertoire along with Fabian Acuña.

Club Sessions
Club Sessions is part of Stonnington Festivals late night events, featuring soul, funk and R’n’B outfits. Billy Davis kicks of the series on the 11th of May. Next is Sydneys GODTET supported by DJ Shio Otani and La Sape DJs on May 12. Soul singer Emma Donovan and Melbourne rhythm combo The PutBacks and closing the Club Sessions with one huge party on May 19, are self-described dirty beatnik rock ‘n’ roll band Jazz Party and DJ Richie1250.
