Ballarat Blog #681

The New Year is here and let’s hope the Rat continues to attract some of Australia’s finest artists. The Eastern is firing up with some bands on Thursday January 25 with The Dumb Punts, Drunk Mums and Vintage Crop. The Drunk Mums play catchy ass hard rockin’ punk according to their Facebook page, and aptly describe themselves as “Melbourne via Cairns rock’n’roll yobbos”! Their Denim EP Tour will see them make a pit stop in our little town. Have a listen to these guys if you have the time as their sound is pretty easy to grasp and there is a simplicity to their punk sound which reminds me of old school punk rock. The Eastern will be a great venue to see these guys as well.
The Lost Ones on Camp Street are having live music as well now. Interestingly, they are also doing a wine tasting class there on Feb 31 showcasing white wines. Get along to this as it will be fabulous.
Get excited ye folk of Ballarat as we have the super dooper talented Wesley Fuller and his band coming to town on February 1. Latest release Inner City Dream will get you in instantaneously with it’s swirling psych, jangly pop and punchy glam that shows off Fuller’s broadening sonic palette. ‘Skyways’ really appeals and ‘Better Of Me’ has a real Ringo Starr feel to it. This CD is one of the stand-outs I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on over the last few months. One of Melbourne’s finest drummers Brett Wolfenden sits behind the tub and dynamic lead guitarist Liam Hopkins also compliments the gifted Melbourne outfit. Get along to this show as they really impressed last time they were in town. The lads will be hot to trot with quite a few shows already under their belt after trekking around Australia on a National tour.
In Hearts Wake are also on a National Tour and will play Karova Lounge on Wednesday Feb 7. The Great Southern Land Tour kicked off in mid January and will wind up in Byron Bay in late March. The sound of these guys is really impressive and the Karova Lounge will be a rumblin’ when these guys take to the stage. $25 to get in is money well spent to bang your head and sweat until you can wring your shirt out.
Get amongst it folks… there are some great acts heading our way already!
