2017 Light Awards Live

Melbourne and Geelong based photographer Nicole Marie has been named the 2017 winner of Canon’s annual Light Awards Live; competing agianst three other finalists from across Australia, in a 24 hour photography challenge.
This year saw nearly 1,000 photogrpahers participating in the awards’ first stage – a two day masterclass held in major cities across the country.
In total, fourteen masterclasses were held to decide on the four finalists to compete in the mystery destination Grand Final.
On December 3, the four finalists were told were heading to Tasmania, as they arrived at their local airports. Upon arrival they were given their photography brief by judges, Peter Eastway and Tony Hewitt, and the next 24 hours to shoot, print and submit a four-photo series.
Their brief was to: ‘Create an engaging visual feast of four photographs that share the spirit of a Tasmania less well-known, in an offbeat, seductive and unexpected way’.
After hours of deliberation amongst judges, Nicole’s images, exploring locality and capturing Tasmania’s unique regional spirit, were announced the winners.
Her prize is a Photo Safari Trip to South Africa with the Canon Collective.
