Nine places to get your ice cream fix in the region

Consider this your weekend itinerary.

As soon as the temperature jumps up a few degrees, it’s instantly perfect ice cream weather. After all, there’s no greater time to get a cone of something soft, cold and delicious, with the sticky remains on your fingers for hours.

Below is a rundown of a few great spots where you can pick up an icy treat as the weather gets warmer.

Augustus Gelatery, Geelong

Opening in Geelong last year, Augustus Gelatery has you covered with 36 different kinds of the Italian treat, including all your favourites and some unique ones that you’ve just have to try. Cotton Candy, fig and almond, espresso, bacio, tiramisu, strawberry cheesecake, and choc hazelnut fudge just to name a few. We can promise you’ll transport yourself to Italy with just one lick no matter what you decide. You’ll also find a number of sorbet options (mango, strawberry, lemon, dark chocolate), as well as some delectable vegan options which include peanut butter and jelly, coconut and mango, pistachio, and salted caramel. Clearly, they’re catering for all sweet tooths across the board – and we’re not mad about it.

Augustus Gelatery is located on 41 Gheringhap Street, Geelong and is open daily from 12pm-11pm.

Nordenfine Ice Cream Company – Torquay & Geelong

With a focus on delivering high quality and innovative ice cream products made locally, their greatest inspirations often come from seeing how their customers enjoy their products and what flavour they can intrigue them with. With a guarantee of 32 flavours on offer every day, you can expect the likes of spearmint choc chip, macadamia, passionfruit, kat teaser, jaffa, coffee fudge, and caramilk, just to name a few.

The Torquay location provides the perfect accompaniment for those afternoon strolls along the beach.

Find them at 34 Bell Street, Torquay & 210c Pakington Street, Geelong West.

Great Ocean Road Ice Creamery and Chocolaterie – Bellbrae

There’s no denying this venue’s pull. Chocolate and ice cream, is there anything else you need in life? While the chocolate is good, the ice cream is on the same level, with various flavours to choose from.

As it’s located on the Great Ocean Road, this one is great for a pit-stop on your way to Anglesea and Lorne, or it’s just the perfect excuse for an afternoon of browsing handcrafted chocolates, enjoying the ice cream, and sussing out the sweet and savoury delights to take-away.

This one’s located at 1200 Great Ocean Road, Bellbrae and is open daily from 9am to 5pm.

Paradise Parlour – Ocean Grove

Located in the heart of Ocean Grove, Paradise Parlour has been a favourite for picking up an icy treat after a day at the beach. Opening two years ago at the hands of Talya Pecen and Ben Farrugia, the ice creamery began delivering high quality and innovative ice cream products made locally, and fast became the go-to in town for those late-night ice-cream hankerings with doors open until 9pm.

Here, you’ll be blessed with bright neon signage, fresh greenery and an ice cream cabinet housing a wide range of flavours, including the likes of cookies and cream, honeycomb, salted caramel, coconut, chocolate hazelnut, and all-time favourite coffee.

The central, coastal location is definitely a win, but better still, all ice creams are handmade with natural ingredients. There is also flavoursome vegan, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free and nut free options available. How’s that for the most accommodating ice creamery around?

Paradise Parlour is located at 3/62 The Terrace, Ocean Grove.

Curls and Swirls – Geelong

Located in the Geelong CBD, Curls and Swirls is all about serving rolled ice cream, a style inspired by Thai street vendors. Usually rolled ice cream is achieved by pouring a milk and cream base onto cold metal plates, and chop in any add-ins (nuts, banana, cookies, KitKats, etc.) before flattening it out and rolling up the mix. It’s pretty cool and it looks amazing!

Here you’ll find loads of different flavours to indulge in, including Biscoff, Oreo, mint, choc banana, Nutella, Kit Kat, Tutti Frutty, Peanut Butter Cookies, fruit basket – the list goes on and on.

Alongside the ice cream itself, Curls and Swirls are also slinging tubs of Ben & Jerry Flavours, delicious shakes, fresh juice, and a Magnum tubs.

Find them at 186 Ryrie Street, Geelong and 152 Pakington Street, Geelong West from 12pm to 9pm.

Miss Gina Gelato – Geelong

Miss Gina Gelato is well known in Geelong for dishing out authentic Italian gelato, made in store daily, by the scoopful!

The flavours are always changing here, but some of our favourites include Gina’s chocolate, Nutella, after dinner mint, wagon wheel, pavlova, vanilla bean and of course salted caramel. She’s even got a tonne of non-dairy scoops on offer, including lemon, mango, dark chocolate, pistachio, raspberry and biscoff… oh so delicious.

While the ice cream cones are to die for, the Gina Gelato team have recently evolved their business even further, making gelato cakes for birthdays and family catch ups. We know what we want for Christmas…

You’ll find Gina at 58 Moorabool St, Geelong (perfect location for strolling down to the waterfront). She’s open Wednesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and weekends from 11am to 5pm.

Scandinavian Ice Cream Co – Queenscliff

Another coastal gem (we’re sensing a pattern), this business is rated highly amongst locals and to no surprise – they have been operating since 1984.

They offer a mouth-watering array of award-winning ice cream, sorbets and gelato, plus drinks and shakes. With 48 flavours of scoops to choose from, our top picks are the Strawberry Cheesecake and Pistachio… but with that many flavours, you just have to try them all!

They regularly drop new flavours too so it’s worth keeping an eye on their socials if you consider yourself a bit of an ice cream junkie. This week flavours were Red Velvet with Cookie Dough and Birthday Cake, so that’s the kind of creativity you can expect all summer long.

The hardest part about entering these venues will be leaving with just one cone.

Find them at 80 Hesse St, Queenscliff. Best part is they’re open until late (8:30pm-9pm) every night throughout summer.

Gelato Gelato – Lorne & Anglesea

Lorne’s Gelato Gelato – the purveyors of all things creamy, inventive and delicious – are a must if you’ve got a hankering for something sweet.

Slinging award-winning gelato, there is a massive selection to choose from including all your favourites and some unique ones that you’ve just gotta try. There’s pistachio, choc coconut, lemon curd, ginger, strawberry, banana, cookies and cream, quince, matcha, cinnamon and even Fior di latte with pistachio and white chocolate fudge – just to name a few. We can promise you’ll transport yourself to Italy with just one lick no matter what you decide!

You can even indulge in milkshakes, hot drinks, and coffee on ice if that’s what your summer-loving self desires.

With a passion for finding the very best ingredients, sourcing local produce, and creating Gelato that will make you smile, you won’t regret a scoop from here.

You can find Gelato Gelato at 114 Mountjoy Pde, Lorne, and at 1/141 Great Ocean Rd, Anglesea. The Anglesea store is currently operating Friday to Monday, while Lorne is open daily.
