As soon as the temperature jumps up a few degrees, it’s instantly perfect ice cream weather. After all, there’s no greater time to get a cone of something soft, cold and delicious, with the sticky remains on your fingers for hours. Below is a rundown of a few great spots where you can pick up an icy treat as the weather gets warmer.
Uncle Buck’s Ice-Creamery – Geelong
Located inside Buckley’s Entertainment, Uncle Buck’s is the newest place to enjoy some delicious soft serve ice-cream, frozen yoghurt and indulge in an amazing lolly bar. In a ‘self-serve’ style, just pick your flavour, choose your toppings, then weigh and pay. How easy is that?! With toppings ranging from sour worms, sprinkles and jaffas to florals, chia seeds and goji mix, there’s the option of healthy treats too. Enjoy dine-in or take-away, Uncle Buck’s is open all day, every day.

Nordenfine Ice Cream Company – Torquay & Geelong
With a focus on delivering high quality and innovative ice cream products made locally, their greatest inspirations often come from seeing how their customers enjoy their products and what flavour they can intrigue them with. With a guarantee of 32 flavours on offer every day, they’ve spent the winter months testing lots of new flavours, recently adding S’more ice cream to the already amazing summer flavour list. BTW they also have one litre takeaway tubs…

Il Piccolo Gelato – Ballarat
Recently re-opening after their annual break, Il Piccolo Gelato makes artisan gelato daily in store using fresh milk, the finest ingredients and no artificial colours or flavours. Keep an eye out for the limited addition flavours which appear daily – a stand-out was their Pink Grapefruit and Gin in celebration of Melbourne Cup day. Let’s hope that one makes a swift return!

Coffetti Artisan Gelato – Anglesea & Barwon Heads
In September last year, an Australian wife and Italian husband teamed together to make authentic Italian gelato using fresh Australian produce. The result? Coffetti Gelato! Located in Anglesea (and a second store in Barwon Heads), you’ll find all sorts of house-made gelato and their Italian style Stecchi (ice cream on sticks) all year round.

Great Ocean Road Ice Creamery and Chocolaterie – Bellbrae
There’s no denying this venue’s pull. Chocolate and ice cream, is there anything else you need in life? While the chocolate is good, the ice cream is on the same level, with various flavours to choose from.

Miss Gina Gelato – Geelong
She’s back. Miss Gina Gelato is again dishing out authentic Italian gelato, made in store daily, by the scoopful! The flavours are always changing here, with specials like Pavlova, Panna Cotta and the famous Pistacchio. She’s open Tuesday to Sunday from 1pm so pop in and say hi!
Where: 58 Moorabool St, Geelong
Scandinavian Ice Cream Co – Barwon Heads & Queenscliff
Another coastal gem (we’re sensing a pattern), this business which has two venues is rated highly amongst locals and to no surprise. Our top pick is the creamy and delicious white chocolate and raspberry ice cream. They’ve also recently made a dairy free chocolate ice cream with rice milk. Your hardest thing entering these venues will be leaving with one cone.

FroCreations – Bendigo
Offering up frozen yoghurt, gelato, waffles, and sorbet, it’s a quick stop while wandering around the town. With fresh fruit and lollies available too, you can make your dessert the way you like. Changing it up a bit, here you don’t pay by weight. Instead there’s fixed prices and LOTS of choice – so we suggest you load up.
