Wallis Bird

Wallis Bird recently announced she is taking a break from working on her second album and is returning to Australia to play a bunch of shows this November through December. We chat to her ahead of her shows.

Hey, thanks for chatting! How are you and what have you been up to?

All is good, just arrived right now in Sydney, am sitting in the sun, having a flat white, delighted with myself. I’ve been up to plenty, touring a lot, working on new songs, writing for others and with other projects, been enjoying life, hanging with my friends and little kiddies, and in between I’ve been doing absolutely NOTHING! Just sitting, gazing out the window, clearing the mind.

What is your favourite thing about being on the road?

The fun, sharing the experience with others, the food, the reaction from different audiences or venue, the cultural exchange, the variety and randomness of every day, it’s a lovely existence this music life!

What was your favourite thing about Australia on your last visit?

Watching the new year sunrise in silence with my dear friends and my partner in my arms, is and 30,000 other humble humans in silence, celebrating the sun and each other. Easily one of the best moments of all time for me.

Any particular place you want to visit or anything you want to try on this trip down under?

I want to go back to the MONA in Taz, that was fucking excellent. Also, swimming in any part of the ocean would make me happy. Simply being under a sky full of stars would be perfect too.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Be true

What has been the most challenging and the most rewarding on your musical journey?

Most challenging is being young and having my pride kicked because I couldn’t handle judgement or critique and wasn’t calm in myself, and he most rewarding this is how I’ve carved my own career by sticking to my guns and learning from my mistakes and loving the people I work with and the life rewards I receive. Being extremely proud of what I’ve achieved is my greatest success.

If you had to describe your sound in three words what would they be?

Unique, passionate, comforting

What do Wallis Bird fans have to look forward to next?
