The Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival is a four day event in the heart of historic Lydiard Street, Ballarat, running from the 8th Feb-11th Feb and celebrates all things Rockabilly including the music, the fashion, the cars, the dancing and the fun!
As well as fabulous music, the festival includes a Tiki bar, dance floors, fashion parades, best dressed competition and of course, the return of the much-loved pin-up competition which sees male and female pin-ups strut down the catwalk.
Proudly hosted by Lana-Rose Fashion, the regional competition attracts contestants, both males and females from all over Australia. This year there are five categories contestants can choose from, including Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Geekabilly, Glamourbilly and Atomic Couples.
“A lot of the time, the competitions are say five girls and they’ll do a day wear, an evening dress and a swimsuit, or similar” Tracey of Lana-Rose Fashion explains. “We however have the different themed categories, where you specialise in your genre of Kustom Kulture – so we’ve got the Rockabilly, we’ve got the Psychobilly and we’ve actually got a more recent theme gaining popularity with Geekabilly.
“The Rockabilly is a generalization, it’s almost like a modern day wear one, so taking on the classic of vintage. Psychobilly covers anything from Psychobilly through to Gothabilly [aka Hellbilly], to tattoos. Geekabilly returns for it’s second year, so because of the explosion of Marvel and DC Comics, it’s mixing with Rockabilly. With the costuming, the girls (and boys) are geeking up their outfits to look like Wonder Woman and such. Our actual Miss Ballarat Beat of this year was in the Geekabilly category.”
Each category will have a single winner – and then whoever has the highest point score out of those categories, becomes the Ballarat Beat Pin-up winner and will receive a Ballarat Beat Crown, become the “face/ambassador” of the Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival for 12 months and become a Guest Judge for the Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Pinup Competition 2019. And did we mention prizes? Heaps and heaps of them on offer to. You gotta be in it to win it!!
Registration is NOW OPEN for Ballarat Beat Pin-up Competition on February 10 2018.
