As a part of the Melbourne Music Week Hub, contemporary music summit, Face The Music, will smash all expectations, a game changing event and a must attend for anyone aspiring to work in the music industry. With some of the best and brightest people involved in the industry – booking agents, journalists, program managers, and triple and quadruple threats – FTM is where miracles can happen, with a slew of events and workshops that’ll have you bursting with music industry knowledge, for the tenth year in a row. Here are some sessions that we highly recommend you get yourselves along to.

Cooking with Kirin
You know he can shred, gyrate, croon and wail but did you know he can cook? Join the master of the avante-garde Kirin J Callinan when he demonstrates his culinary flair in our custom outdoor kitchen while talking you through his latest long-player ‘Bravado’.

Listening Sessions
Ever wanted the chance to find out what triple j’s programmers think of your music? Well, you’re in luck: triple j’s Music Director Nick Findlay and presenter of triple j’s new Australian music show Home & Hosed, Dom Alessio, will be heading down to Face The Music 2017 to listen to your music as part of this year’s one-on-one listening sessions.

Meet Your Future Boss
A chinwag with the industry’s most cunning young guns featuring Beat editor Gloria Brancatisano, Mallrat, Gasometer booker Alex Gleeson, Charlotte Ried of Michael Parisi Management (Vera Blue, Dan Sultan) and Georgia Cooke publicist at Remote Control.

Beyond The Valley Goes Under The Microscope
Last year they laid bare the mechanics that keep Peking Duk on the road and this year they apply the same to one of Australia’s fastest-growing festivals, Beyond The Valley. Join moderator Damian Cunningham of the national Live Music Office interrogate the brains trust behind BTV to discover just what it takes to stage an event of that magnitude.

Intersessions
Kish Lal, Brooke Powers, and more to be announced join Chippy Nonstop, the rapper/DJ/entrepreneur so big America had to kick her out, for the inaugural Melbourne edition of Intersessions. The DJ workshops have been written about all over the world for their focus on helping females and LGBTQI+ folks make their way into the music industry.
