Planet of the 8s are a Melbourne-based three-piece rock outfit, with what can only be desrcibed as a predilection for enormous grooves. We chat to the guys.
Who are we chatting to and what do you do in the band?
We are the collective groove of Sullo – Lead Vocals & Lead Bass, JC – Lead Guitar and Lead Backing Vocals, Pete – Lead Drums.
What do you reckon people will say you sound like?
We’re getting comparisons to Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Queens of the Stone Age and Faith No More in parts. None of that’s a leap. It’s big and groovy! There’s guitars!
What do you hope listeners will take away from the album?
An intense journey through space and time, the excitement of the heavy and the reprieve, the chaos and the long-winding rabbit hole. The anticipation of flipping the vinyl.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
We need not go back in time. There are musical heroes out there now, entertaining their 10 friends down at the local pub or pumping up 10 thousand in some paddock. We want to impress them as they impress us.
What can we expect from a Planet of the 8s show?
A hazy recollection of awe, wonder and that nagging riff from that song you can’t remember the name of but it goes duh duh duh dah… to Shazam! Shit, where’s my phone?
