After spending the past six months playing over 50 gigs in 16 different countries, and playing close to 100 songs – including some the band had never played before, Australian rockers are finally returning home, ready to play the homecoming leg of their The Great Circle tour.
On top of this leg of the tour kicking off in Alice Springs, the band have recently announced an intimate benefit gig for the Great Barrier Reef. This will aim to help protect the Great Barrier Reef and to raise for support reef activism and research. All profits from this performance will go to Great Barrier Reef Legacy.
The gig will be held at the Tanks Art Centre, and the show has been titled “Oils At The Reef”. It will be recorded and broadcast as a part of radio and television specials, from Foxtel’s MAX and Triple M, aiming to draw attention to the current suffering of The Great Barrier Reef.
The Midnight Oil believe in using their music for issues they believe in – previously the band played a guerrilla set aboard the Rainbow Warrior for the issue of reef mining on the Amazon River, and they have previously played other environmentally orientated events.
The band are also playing 22 shows as a part of the Great Circle Tour, for which prior legs have received high praise from critics and fans alike. The tour includes five Victorian shows – three of which have already sold out.
