How to make the most of your Grand Final weekend

The long weekend is finally here, and whether your a fan of the tigers or the crows, we’ve run down a few ways to spend the extra day off, the night before the day off and on the day itself. Warning: many of these include late nights and even later mornings. Enjoy!

Head to a MEME FEST on Grand Final Eve Eve
A meme what? Well… since we’ve all got the day off the day before the Grand Final and it’s 2017 where you can’t go anywhere without seeing a meme, Ballarat’s Karova Lounge are hosting a night of them. With DJs playing anything that is, could or should be a meme from Smashmouth’s Allstar, Owl City’s Fireflies and so on plus heaps of other bangers, the walls all over the venue will be plastered with your favourite oversized memes along with some cut outs to take photos of you and your friends in your own real life meme. Dress up as your favourite meme and score a drink card on entry.
When: Thursday September 28 from 9:30pm.

Thursdae – Grand Final Friday Eve ft. Dom Dolla x Torren Foot
What better way to spend a Thursday night than with Dom Dolla and Torren Foot – especially when the next day is a day off!! These boys are touring the country, playing some of the best venues the country has to offer, leaving a sea of empty mini bars and Melbourne Bitter tinnies in their wake – and UNO have scored them for the only public holiday date of the tour! Why not!?
When: Thursday September 28 from 10pm.

Grand Final Friday Eve Block Party ft. GL
The Inn are well known for their epic car park parties and now we need not wait any longer. This time they’ve got GL – the Melbourne duo Ella Thompson and Graeme Pogson, who together create a thrilling contemporary spin on classic disco, funk, boogie, soul and electronic pop. If you’re all over triple j, Meredith and Splendour In The Grass you’ll know who, and if not, well you’re in for a treat! There will also be local supports from Abe Anderson, Jack Harman and Chook & Moluck among others.
When: Thursday September 28 from 5pm. Free entry before 7pm.

Prepare for a Lambys Grand Final Marathon
It’s everyone’s favourite time of the year… another chance to attempt a Lambys Marathon! This one is not for the weak or faint hearted (or lightweights), with four nights in a row of Lambys. Sunday will finish off with a bang as well with former AFL star Warwick Capper in for a sesh! Come grab a beer and a photo to end what will be a massive weekend.

Get your fitness on
The Training Room Geelong are hosting their AFL Grand Final Public Holiday Endurance Challenge. Jump in on their session on strength and conditioning that will test your physical and mental endurance. WARNING: You will be lifting, running, rowing, jumping, skipping, throwing, lunging, pushing, pulling…and most likely swearing and sweating too. This is an OPEN EVENT. It is free for Members and their guests.
When: Friday September 30 from 7:30am -9:00am.

Watch the Footy on the new rooftop at AMPED
With two screens, two bars and their new open air rooftop AMPED is the place to go for a whole day and night of entertainment. They’ve even got Melbourne cover band ‘No Soup 4 You’ performing from 8pm. Go get amped.

UNO Presents Grand Final Night ft. MOTEZ
UNO the party legends have given us another one. With Grand Final Day being a really good excuse to enjoy a few bevs, UNO have made sure you have somewhere to party on later in the evening with Motez. The Baghdad-via-Adelaide artist has been spreading his infectious releases since 2010 and is renowned for his progressive originals and official remixes for the likes of Goldlink, Disclosure and Ellie Goulding. You’ll want to get in early for this one as capacity will be hit.

Take a step back and enjoy tunes from Kim Churchill
This triple j fave will be hitting Ballarat’s Karova Lounge this weekend celebrating his new album Weight_Falls. If you’re looking for a way to wind down or a different way to party on, check our Churchill and enjoy the music!

Enjoy the long weekend at the home of sport and beer
Every year on grand final day, many a fan flock to their local Sporto. For good reason, the Sporting Globe’s grand final day celebration has all you need to catch every moment of the game with about 50 plus flat screens and pint in hand. They’re also hosting a huge K Rock breakfast, plus events all day as well as post game celebrations into the night with DJs. Entry is free but you’ll want to lock it in with a GA or Restaurant booking. Plus, you can upgrade your ticket with a great value drinks or meal upgrade package! This could mean a VIP Booth as well, which includes your own Private BoothTV, main meal and drink, plus 24 share wings. Woo-hoo! And let’s not forget the drinks! Kick on at KUBU
Show your support for Geelong music and check out this impressive showcase of Geelong bands. Headlining will be indie folk-rockers Miles Recommends for their first show in Geelong in promotion of their critically acclaimed debut EP, along with Geelong’s spicy alternative rocking legends Dec McKinnon and The Knockabouts, and the enchanting Izzy Losi and the Auracles in support!
When: Saturday September 30 from 6:30pm. All Ages Event. Tickets $10 at the door.

Attend the day party to end all day parties
The Grand Final Eve public holiday will once again be used as an opportunity for Bendigo’s Universal to host their Universal Day Party. Headlined by Will Sparks, special guests include Tyron Hapi and Haber. Melbourne-born Sparks has won the title of both ‘Best Breakthrough Artist’ (Inthemix – 2013) and Australia’s #1 DJ (Inthemix – 2014) and is the founder of Bourne Recordings.
