Queenscliff Music Festival’s FOOT-in-the-DOOR initiative

Aside from the established artists we see every year, Queenscliff Music Festival stays ahead of the rest by running its own young artist initiative called FOOT-In-The-DOOR, where each night young and upcoming talents can showcase their music.

Its purpose is to help emerging young artists showcase their talents, and as the name suggests get a ‘foot-in-the-door’ in the music industry. It gives young artists the chance to perform live in front of an audience at a nationally acclaimed music festival, which is a very valuable and rewarding experience for those selected artists.

The FreeZA funded youth program is split into three categories of acoustic, blues and roots, and pop/rock with acts being judged and cash prizes awarded, which acts as a real stepping-stone for some artists.

Five bands/artists will play in each section, battling it out in front of a panel of industry judges and spectators for the Grand Prize. Regarding the Grand Prize, the winner of each category will receive a day recording and mixing at Don’t Poke the Bear Studios, all thanks to Oxygen College.

And with that, applications are now open. If you’re between the ages 12-25 and dream of getting a gig at Queenscliff Music Festival to showcase your talent, simply apply via the website.

Not only is the FOOT-in-the-DOOR competition aimed at helping young emerging artists perform and compete at the QMF, it is also managed and run by youth. The FOOT-in-the-DOOR youth program aims to bring young people from the Borough of Queenscliff together to get involved in the Queenscliff Music Festival and with their community.

Last year winners included Nancie Schipper, Tom Walker & His Band of Sick Individuals, as well as Heath Robertson.

Offering such a wide array of musical acts at a time when the summer season is cluttered with music festivals, what makes Queenscliff so appealing is its community spirit and structure to cater for a wider audience, beginning with this inspiring program.
