In really sad news for the music lovers of Ballarat, Suttons House Of Music will be closing its doors at the end of October 2017. Unfortunately, the lease is not being renewed and it seems the venue will sit empty due to a breakdown in negotiations with the various parties involved. What an absolute bummer as we all have such wonderful memories of seeing live acts in this charming, intimate venue. It is rare that you are able to get so up front and personal with artists as you are at Suttons and one can only hope that the baton is passed on to a new venue with equal charm.
In the meantime, The 27 Club will play at Suttons on August 27. Paying homage to the great songs of Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain, the unique experience of the 27 Club includes poetry, verbatim interviews, candid journal entries and show-stopping numbers. $35 to get in, this is likely to float your boat!
Around the corner and up the road, Karova Lounge has Third Eye, who will do their thing as they cover their heroes Tool. My spies tell me the tribute show contains impressive lighting, visual displays that incorporates video clips and other Tool related artwork. Having the reputation of being one of the best Tool tribute shows in the world, fans have to get along to this one for sure. Entry is only $20.
Babushka has sad news also for its patrons with an announcement on their Facebook page that they will be calling it a day. Over the next few months, some of the acts known and loved will be returning to the venue to say farewell. There is no set date as of yet, so you still have a chance to get down to Babs and give her a kiss goodbye.
On the food front, Ballarat Wholefoods are doing awesome food that tastes super yummy. Homemade soups are available daily and on my visit, I tucked into the lasagna which was absolutely delightful. Coffee and cakes are popular and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.
Zigames has completed a whopping renovation and has opened its very large doors to the public now and many varieties of beer are now on tap, and the dining room is quite a unique space. The food is still consistently good. It’s worth a look just for the wow factor of the renovation!
