Live N Local is Port Phillip’s week-long music festival

Whether gigging in a boutique moonshine distillery, or catching a rickshaw to see music at the end of St Kilda pier, this August, Live N Local Festival is offering Melbourne music lovers a unique week-long live music experience.

Returning to the City of Port Phillip this August, Melbourne’s free winter music festival comes with a program that will delight musicians and music fans alike.

Spanning eight days from August 19 to 26, unique, local venues and hot spots will throw open their doors to host local live music. Musicians will have the opportunity to perfect their craft with an extensive artist development program as the festival continues its firm educational focus.

Kicking off with a pop up party at the newly established Acland Plaza and closing with Jess Ribeiro at Temperance Hall, Live N Local looks set to become a staple of Melbourne’s winter cultural calendar.

La Bastard will headline a soul session at Starward Distillery, St Kilda’s extensive Jazz heritage will be celebrated and the cellar of Newmarket Hotel opened up for some soul. Sacred Heart Catholic Church will host a celebration of ‘Women of Song’ and the ‘Rock The Moon’ closing party is going down at Melbourne Moonshine. Commuter Carols will see commuters serenaded during their morning grind and some tasty ‘Music Bites’ are happening daily at Acland Plaza.

The line-up of musicians is incredibly diverse, boasting the lush vocals of the glorious Woodes, the theatrical post-punk rockers Destrends, and the moody sounds of Fierce Mild. With genres ranging from hillbilly trainwreck blues to galactic souls breaks, and a couple of choirs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

There are plenty of opportunities to network. Workshops exploring law, production, export and mixing will be complemented by panels discussing the broader concepts of songwriting, management and marketing. Guest speakers representing Ditto Music, Sanicki Lawyers, Creative Victoria and a plethora of thriving local institutions will share their knowledge throughout the week.

When & Where: City of Port Phillip – Saturday August 19 – 26
