The best of the best on offer at Tastes of Central Geelong

Coming to Geelong for three mouth-watering weeks throughout the month of July is the ‘Tastes of Central Geelong’ festival, celebrating all things delicious in the region. With everything from coffee crawls and barista classes to bake-offs and special two-course lunches, there’s pretty much something to keep you busy every day of the festival, and providing the perfect opportunity to sample some of the best food and drink that the Geelong region has to offer.

Whether you are an advanced foodie or just enjoy eating (like me), I can guarantee that there will be something new and enticing for you to devour. And for your benefit, there are a few places which I have picked out which are sure to be absolute winners. I guess you could say, I am like your ‘food fairy godmother’!

First on the list is ‘Tasting with the Brewer’ at Blackman’s Brewery Bar on Tuesday nights. For only $12, you can sample a whole tasting paddle with one of the Blackman’s Brewers and learn about the different beer styles, including how and why they are brewed. If this sounds like your kind of Tuesday night, get on down for one of the three sessions which are sure to attract numbers!

Although, if Tuesday simply doesn’t appeal to you, don’t fret! Wednesdays at Blackman’s Brewery Bar will be just as tempting, and if you happen to fall under the label as a bit of a sweet-tooth, ‘Beer and Donut night’ is right up your alley! There are a tonne of beer and donut specials, and since Blackman’s Brewery Bar have teamed up with Uncle Donut for this one, it will not disappoint.

Third on my list is ‘The Pink Flamingo Pop Up Bar and Bites’. For this one, Little Beast have partnered up with Cartel City Brew Bar for a once in a lifetime opportunity, for you to taste cocktails and enjoy nibbles whilst the chance to have a dance waits patiently, with the alluring sound of Synth in the background. If this sounds like your kind of night, get on down to one of the nine sessions hosted at the Coffee Cartel, located at 80 Little Malop Street.

If you enjoy making drinks, rather than just sitting back and enjoying them (or both), perhaps this next one is the perfect night out for you. Located again at the Coffee Cartel, Little Beast and Co are hosting a two hour session on how to create killer drinks and better yet, make them truly unique. For the sum of $60 per person, you get three cocktails and a wide range of nibbles is (quite literally) on the table. Bookings for this one are essential so make sure you secure your place before you miss the opportunity to name yourself Geelong’s newest (and best) cocktail maker.

And fifth, but definitely not least on my list is the ‘Empire Winter High Tea’, which is the perfect opportunity to escape the harsh winter weather for two hours and relax by the fire, while you enjoy a glass of bubbles with a wide range of indulgent sweet and savoury snacks, high tea style.

There is so much more to do including watching culinary students in action, coffee crawls and ‘vegan ventures’, or even your very own self guided tour, as well as a huge range of special offers from an enormous number of cafes.

So get on down from July 7 – 30 and get a taste of some of the stomach rumbling food and drinks which our beloved city has to offer. Find all the session times and event info at centralgeelong.com.au.
