Buxom Blues Quartet have finally released their self-titled debut EP this month – almost a year to the day from the band’s first rehearsal.
While the band definitely salutes blues-masters- past on the CD with the inclusion of three classic evergreens, two brand-new original songs, penned entirely by singer/songwriter, Kayleen Gibbons, have also been spooned into the mix.
As lead singer Kayleen explains: “The originals have their foundations firmly in blues, but there’s a floating layer of soulful jazz across the top and a hint of sleazy country blues underneath.”
Each musician – all with musical backgrounds as varied as their hats – personally chose a song which they love playing live, for the EP.
The band recorded the EP in one afternoon – virtually live except for some overdubbing of solos – at Don’t Poke the Bear Studio in Geelong, and was engineered and mastered by Pepe Minutoli.
Buxom Blues Quartet will launch their self-titled EP at Irish Murphy’s, Sunday June 18, 3pm – 5 pm, free entry.
