Victoria to include live music in new anti-scalping legislation

The State Government has just proposed plans to extend its Major Sporting Events Act to protect music fans from scalpers.

The move comes after bands including Violent Soho, Illy and The Smith Street Band reported tickets to their shows were being resold well above ordinary prices. There have also been reports of Adele fans buying false tickets via ‘ticket retailer’ Viagogo.

Up to this point, the focus of the Act has been on sporting events alone but amongst planned reforms seeking to increase security at Victoria sporting events, legislation will include concerts.

As reported by The Music Network, Sports Minister John Eren believes the changes will put the state in a better position to attract more major sports, music, cultural and business events while also ensuring a fairer go for fans of all types.
