Geelong and Ballarat voted in the top 10 councils for music by Music Victoria

Music Victoria has released its inaugural list of its top 10 Victorian councils for music.

The list celebrates the councils’ work for their support of local musicians, artists, festivals and live music. Both Geelong and Ballarat are featured, two of three regional councils to make the list.

Samantha McIntosh, the Mayor for the City of Ballarat is thrilled at this announcement, and states that the council is looking forward to “seeing this dynamic sector continue to flourish”.

Music Victoria chair, Tim Northeast said that he is looking “forward to working with councils to help deliver more music strategies”.

The top 10 Victorian councils for music (as voted by Music Victoria) are below:

City of Ballarat
City of Darebin
City of Greater Geelong
Maribyrnong City Council
City of Melbourne
Moreland City Council
Mornington Peninsula Shire
City of Port Phillip
City of Stonnington
City of Yarra
*alphabetical order

The criteria for judging the councils was based on; leading the way in developing and implementing strategic plans for contemporary music in their community, providing grants and other programs for contemporary music, curating, supporting and funding local music festivals, offering use of council facilities for local musicians and involvement in, and contribution to, the Victorian music community.
