Elephant & Castle St.Patrick’s Day Street Party
For the celebration of the national saint of one small but beautiful country, St Patrick’s Day found its way far beyond Ireland’s borders to become a worldwide, annual event.
The Elephant & Castle Hotel will once again be hosting their annual street party to celebrate the life of Ireland’s favourite saint.
Traditionally a dry holiday, Irish law (between 1903 and 1970) made St. Patrick’s Day a religious holiday for the entire country, which meant pubs were closed for the day, according to Catholic Online. Today however, St. Patrick’s Day is one of the largest drinking holidays with an estimated $245 million spent on beer for the day in Ireland – been one of the most celebrated events in the world.
Anything green or gold, shamrocks and luck, and of course, guinness represents St Patrick’s day – and this street party is sure to have all of it. Running from 10:30am right up until midnight, local revellers are encouraged raise a pint to this famous Irish holiday. Along with the cold Guinness, Irish food, free popcorn, a Mr & Mrs St Pat Day and Riverdance competition, the party will be featuring live entertainment for the whole day.
Here’s a quick look at the bands to look out for:
One of Melbourne’s premiere acoustic and electric duo, they are known for their variety of classic songs from the 70′s and 80′s, jazz, Irish music and even current songs. They’ll be playing a mix of Celtic and classic covers that will entertain you on the main outdoor stage from 4-7pm.
Geelong’s resident muso, this UK born singer-songwriter will be bringing his acoustic set to the party. With a voice that easily spans genres of alternative, acoustic rock, folk and soft rock, Biscan displays his signature gift for evoking imagery and emotion. With both originals and covers, you will be singing along in no time.
MC Andy Macgee’s Comedy Hypnotist
Known as one of the most ‘outrageously funniest and professional comedy stage hypnotist’ in Australia, The Elephant and Castle are bringing Andy’s stand-up comedy and hypnotised sketches to the main outdoor stage. Within minutes of starting the show, audience members have the possibility of becoming an Irish rock star or Irish musicians or even an Irish dancer… one to watch out for.
There will also be music from DJ Brian’s Irish DJ set and acoustics from Issac Barter to help continue the celebration, along with a family area and face painters for those that are bringing their little ones. For an authentic way to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, join the party, get your hands on a pint of Guinness and enjoy the festivities in the street. Sláinte!

Wine Caravan & Bulmers Marquee
We love when there are different locations dedicated to different forms of alcohol. Especially when one of those – Bulmers – was born and bred in Clonmel, Ireland. Everything you touch is authentic green gold.
