2017 has just begun, and it’s a year to be reckoned with. This year, get out and explore the dynamic performing arts, theatrical and musical performances that your town has to offer – you never know what you will discover. We’ve rounded up a few local theatres to look into.

Theatre Royal, Castlemaine

The Theatre Royal is one of Australia’s oldest operating theatre, established back in 1854. Originally built to entertain diggers during the gold rush, the intimate local institution screens art house and blockbuster films, and is host to local and international touring acts. We hear the coffee here is pretty good too!

Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC), Geelong

GPAC is one of the region’s best arts facility. Focusing on participation in performing arts with over nine spaces, the venue provides a wide range of performances with theatre season programs, film festivals, touring productions, concerts, local theatre and school productions. The space has attracted some of the best performers from Australia and overseas.

Potato Shed, Drysdale

The Potato Shed, a vibrant arts complex, operates an a multi-purpose arts and cultural centre for joint use by the community, Bellarine Secondary College and St Ignatius College. This venue is where you will find classes in dance, drama and yoga, indoor and outdoor performances, multi-arts festivals, art exhibitions, outdoor events, meetings and conferences.

Ararat Performing Arts Centre

Housed in Ararat’s stately old Town Hall, the PAC is the cultural hub of the town, attracting a rich calendar of annual events. Here, local and guest artists stage regular performances, including national touring shows and festivals.

Her Majesty’s Theatre, Ballarat

Her Majesty’s Theatre is one of Australia’s most historic theatres, and Ballarat’s performing arts centre, offering a range of touring professional and local performances. Featuring a double-balconied auditorium and state of the art theatre equipment, it offers an annual season of touring professional theatre productions, representing performances from some of Australia’s leading theatre companies.

Ulumbarra Theatre, Bendigo

The Ulumbarra Theatre is a 950-seat theatre, music, dance and drama studio spaces, general learning areas and a commercial learning kitchen. The space is utilised by schools for graduation, lectures and arts teaching programs, as well as local, Victorian, interstate and international performing arts, music and cultural groups.

Ulumbarra Theatre

Colac Otway Performing Art & Culture Centre

The COPACC embraces skills, arts, beliefs and traditions of the community, playing host to a variety of genres to satisfy the diverse interests in performing arts, films and exhibitions. Here you will find circus, comedy, drama, children’s theatre, puppetry, jazz, fine music and more, as well as attracting some of the best performers in the country.

The Lighthouse Theatre, Warrnambool

The Lighthouse Theatre, originally a town hall in 1891, is a fully equipped proscenium arch theatre which seats up to 583 guests, right in the CBD. With much of it’s original beauty, the theatre is host to musicals, plays, film festivals, opera and ballet.
