Great Australian Beer Festival: A Beer Lover’s Paradise

Craft beer will be a hot topic in February when Geelong celebrates the return of the Great Australian Beer Festival. Back for its fifth year, the Geelong Racecourse will be filled with an abundance of pop up bars, as local and state-wide breweries showcase hundreds of different brews and styles of beer and cider – enough to please any taste bud.

Along with the cold beverages, food trucks and BBQ’s, there will be a fully exclusive VIP area with great viewing of the main stage. There will also be a variety of interactive activities for festival-goers to participate in from keg rolling, quirky costume races, beer cabaret and a beer cocktail corner.

There will also be a series of free seminars over the day, giving beer lovers the opportunity to meet and mingle with the brains behind the brands, along with an international beer hall to celebrate brews from all over the world.

What’s more, you can just kick back and enjoy a cold brew on the day while listening to live music from three main stages. We’ve rounded up five of the artists on the line-up:

Joe Mungovan
Look out for this Aussie singer/songwriter at the festival. Recently releasing his sophomore EP ‘Way Down South’ which debuted at number two on the iTunes charts, the 21 year old has already completed two national tours across Australia this year – with a number of sold out shows. He boasts his own style of indie folk with catchy melodies and thoughtful lyrics and his intimate live performances showcase his passion deeply – an experience worth seeing.

The Potbelleez
With anthems loved by a generation of Australian clubber’s and festival goers, these electrifying DJs make this festival their grand return to Geelong since 2012. The Potbelleez of course are best known for their tracks ‘Don’t Hold Back’, ‘Are You With Me’, ‘Hello’ and ‘From the Music’. This year has seen them release two tracks ‘Horny’ and ‘Shout’ and our guess is there’ll be quite a few more electro house tracks before the GABF comes around.

Rach Brennan
This multi award winning country folk songstress will resonate and connect with anyone listening to her. With songs written about her own life experiences, showcasing real ‘heart-on-sleeve’ lyrics, the Geelong local has taken her music to the UK and Europe twice already and supported the likes of Thirsty Merc. With her debut EP released in 2014, the 22 year olds playful melodies has been all over Australia with intimate and engaging performances.

Richard Clapton
Australian singer-songwriter,producer and guitarist from Sydney, you would probably recognise Richard Clapton for his classic 1975 hit ‘Girls on the Avenue’. Now in his 43rd year as a recording artist with 13 studio albums spanning four decades, Richard has earned his position as one of the country’s most influential and admired musicians having amassed a dedicated and diverse fan base along the way. Grab a pint and settle in for a true aussie rock performance.

Jon Toogood
Jonathan Toogood is the frontman (lead vocals and guitar) of the New Zealand rock band Shihad for 25 years, with whom he wrote more NZ radio hits than any other artist in NZ music history. Inducted into the RIANZ NZ Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame with the youngest Lifetime Achievement Award recipient (which is quite a feat), the multi instrumentalist, radio presenter, mentor, theatre performer and voiceover artist will be bringing his legendary performances to the festival next year following his solo accoustic tour around NZ for summer.
