Sneaky Sound System Are The Duo To Party With On New Year’s Day

Everyone knows the Aussie duo Sneaky Sound System (and if not, seriously where have you been?). It’s almost guaranteed you were singing along to their hits ‘Pictures’, ‘I Love It’ and ‘UFO’ back in 2007.

While seemingly quiet on the recording side of things, the power couple (Angus McDonald and Connie Mitchell), are still the exact same party-starters they were in the beginning.

Just recently welcoming their first child, the duo have spent the last few years touring Europe and playing summer residencies in places like Mykonos, Ibiza, Tokyo and Serbia to crowds of 3000 people coming from all different parts of the world.

Proving they really didn’t lose their edge, Sneaky Sound System finally dropped ‘I Ain’t Over You’ earlier this year, their first single release since their last album release in 2011, with Angus admitting the wait was purely by choice.

“To be honest, we just didn’t feel like it was time for us to release new music with that entire EDM shit show that was going on. We nearly got pulled in a couple of times, but we thought ‘nah we can’t do this’,” Angus says.

“We kept making lots of music which we are intending to release pretty soon actually, and we’ll be making a lot more house music as well, the stuff that we like to play at our club nights. That’s pretty much the direction that we want to go, rather than go the full radio, pop thing – we’re just not really feeling that vibe as much at the moment. The whole music game has just changed so much from when we started too, everybody is trying to find a way to adapt which feels comfortable for them.”

Between chatting about tennis and a shared love of tequila, Angus hints that early next year will see the release of some EPs, and remixes of their old singles, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their very first studio album.

While Connie is the voice of the band, Angus acts as the multi instrumentalist, producer, DJ and co-songwriter. However, he admits their way of making music is actually very democratic.

“Sometimes she [Connie] will come up with the vocals, sometimes I’ll do it, or we will do it together. We just choose what’s best. It doesn’t really matter whose idea it is, you just always know. We have a few little argy-bargies every now and then, but most of the time it is harmonious.”
With some time back in Australia, the duo are set to bring their party-antics to Geelong on New Year’s Day at the brand new day festival Twice as Nice.
“We’ve done a lot of things the first time round to be honest, so we love being there at the start, and it looks like a great fun line-up and we have certainly always had a great time in Geelong.”

Heading straight from a previous gig in Sydney, Angus says they will be “coming in hot” and ready to party. You can most likely expect to hear their hit tracks, however at this stage, our guess is as good as his.

“We will see how receptive the crowd is and we might even test out some new ones we’ve got. It will be full steam ahead party time. We never know [what we will play] to be honest until we are there – we make it up as we go along.”

We know we will be there, front row and centre for the return of these Aussie party legends – and a promised shot of tequila.
