What’s on Ballarat?

Well the Rat has opened another rip snorter venue. The Sporting Globe on the corner of Lydiard and Mair Streets has now thrown its doors open. Owners Anne and Richard Alexander have really decked the place out. The venue is spacious and the food is totally brilliant with many options served. Many of the regular tap beers are available and a few boutique beers for the beer snobs like yours truly.

I can see this venue being very popular and hopefully live music acts will perform there – a real treat for locals and visitors. The spicy chicken on the entrée menu is also an absolute ripper.

Ballarat Ska Union are making a return to Suttons House of Music on the 18th of August. With their high energy sound, you’re always guaranteed a good time when you get along to see these guys. Three piece psychedelic grunge act Greenthief will support Horris Green at Karova Lounge on the 20th of August. Voyage has just been released by the lads and they have worked hard touring the country “enchanting audiences”, in their own words. Hopefully some of our locals will get down to support the band. Headline act Horris Green have a belting song out with their recent single Bones. Powerful heavy blues rock at its finest – and they are local lads! You can download the band’s new EP at Bandcamp and it will rock your socks off if you like your blues heavy and a rockin`!

The Price Is Wrong is a trivia night at Suttons House of Music, pencilled in for the 25th of August if you feel like stretching your brain on a Thursday night. The John Flanagan Trio will follow the night after. John’s engaging lyricism, uplifting melodies and warm vocal timbre have lifted the band’s profile across Australia with much success, following the popular release of their album There’s Another Way To Where You’re Going.

Hop Temple are still serving the best range of boutique beers in Ballarat and even have a Blues music theme happening on Sundays. The open fire makes a long day after work very inviting.

Zambrero, Forge Pizzeria, Sporting Globe and Hop Temple are fine places to eat or relax and have a drink. All within cooee of each other now, food and beverage lovers can please themselves.
