Tequila Mockingbyrd: Fight and Flight

The intro to this album states “no lemon, no salt, no chaser” and that’s a pretty damn accurate way to describe this release from Melbourne rockers Tequila Mockingbyrd.

Fight and Flight is a debut album that seems to do much more of the former, kicking off strong and holding on to the ‘loud and fast’ sentiment until there’s no air left in their lungs to sing.

‘Catalyst’ is a highlight for the change it offers the release. The vocals are a bit smoother in this song and there’s great breaks where the carefully layered guitar and drums comes to the forefront.

At times the release lulls into a bit of monotony where each song blends into each other, though that’s certainly not a bad thing if you’re into the female fronted old school rock feel. Props also to doing something incredibly different in an industry that can at times feel overrun with indie bands.
