Gravel Samwidge Lock in Ballarat Show

For those old enough to remember, 1989 was an interesting time for music. While a stack of glam metal and hard rock/metal albums were released that year, including Mötley Crüe’s Dr. Feelgood, L.A. Guns’ Cocked and Loaded, Warrant’s Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich and Tesla’s The Great Radio Controversy, the bubble was heading towards bursting point. Soundgarden would sign with A&M Records, while Nirvana would release Bleach. Mother Love Bone, meanwhile, would release the EP, Shine. In this year, Gravel Samwidge also formed.

Beginning their journey in Sydney, the band played with bands including Lubricated Goat, Munroe’s Fur, King Snake Roost and the Tex Perkins outfit The Butcher Shop before relocating to Melbourne in 1990. In 1995, they would become one of the first bands to be unearthed by triple j. Gravel Samwidge would again relocate in 2001, heading to Brisbane. Following a six year hiatus, the band reformed in 2009 and released their debut album, Nonchalance.

Joined by fellow Brisbane band 2 Chevrons, Lime Lagoons, Aktion Unit and Donkeys Muthers of Arse and in support of the re release of Home Brand, the band hits The Eastern, Ballarat this Saturday, May 14.
