Of Longing and Belonging
Western Edge Youth Arts is bringing two brilliant new shows to Geelong that explore ideas of local and global identity from the unique perspective of Geelong’s youth. Belonging is a theatrical comedy following a group of young refugees on the streets of Nairobi and dreaming of a life in Geelong. The show will be the debut performance of the city’s first home-grown African theatre ensemble, the Geelong Edge. The second show, Of Longing, is a dream like journey retelling Homer’s The Odyssey through humour, poetry and digital art. It is also performed by Geelong youth, this time with young actors from East Geelong. Both shows feature sharp scripts and the perfect balance of comedy and physical theatre. Following each show will be a community forum for audiences to ask questions. The shows will take place at Courthouse Youth Arts on May 12 and 13. Tickets are available from courthouse.org.au.
