Ballarat Heritage Weekend

Ballarat Heritage weekend is back again this year over the Mother’s Day weekend and invites you to ‘ignite your curiosity’ and come discover the unknown, the unexpected and the unexplained, with a bunch of events that will suit everyone.

Celebrating some of the quirkier and more curious historical nuggets Ballarat has hidden in its past, the Ballarat Mining Exchange is offering a looking glass to glimpse into the early 1890’s, with bizarre medical cures, performances and more.

Local researchers and artists have collaborated to create interactive installations around town, not far from the historical and stunning city centre designed to spark your curiosity about Ballarat’s history.

Some of the highlighted events for the weekend is the much anticipated Vintage Current Fashion Fair, which will be hosted in St. Patrick’s Hall. Candice DeVille, Australia’s leading vintage fashion blogger and stylist is bringing her best fashion choices to Ballarat for the first time.

The event also features Charlotte Smith (The Darnell Collection) who will be joined by Catriona Rowntree and Claudia Chan Shaw on Saturday to talk fashion and intrigue as well as daily vintage fashion parades. Return on Sunday for a unique fashion experience ‘Ignite Your Fashion Curiosity: 150 Years of Innovation’ were models will showcase the truly bizarre fashion inventions from 1850 to present day.

If your idea of fashion is growing a beard, we’ve got you covered down at the Hop Temple, where the Best Beards & Stache comp will be underway, with five categories to win in!

That’s right, there are five categories to accommodate your glorious food catcher, from ‘partial beard’ to the ‘super stache’ and even a ‘freestyled’ category. Enjoy a beer, some BBQ meat and shooting the breeze with other bearded blokes.

These are only some examples of the huge selection of events on that weekend, so definitely jump on their website www.heritageweekend.com.au to download your own program and suss out which events would suit you the best.

Take mum, take yourself and take your friends, we’ll see you there!
