What’s on Ballarat?

Yours truly has even been out and about of late enjoying the fine array of artists coming to Ballarat. Karova Lounge hosted the fabulous Saskwatch on the 6th of April and not only were they super impressive, but I did observe the large number of women in the audience, which was great to see. All of them somewhat mesmerised by the classy performance of lead vocalist Anele who brought her gutsy, sassy, front-woman ways to entertain the punters.
Their tight-knit pop soul funk pop had the crowd loving every minute of their hour and a bit performance. I was very impressed with this band to say the least. Support acts Wes Fuller and Club Sport were also excellent in their own stylistically individual ways.

Local lad Marc Oswin has four albums of tunes to choose from when he plays at Suttons House of Music on  May 1  to be followed by You Am I frontman Tim Rogers, who will play on  May 5. The latter of which has me excited and waiting with baited breath.

Rogers and lead guitarist Davey Lane have been doing some “Two Am I” gigs of late and, with any luck, they will venture towards the Goldfields at some stage with this format. Apparently Rogers will be accompanied by a “gun-slinging compadre”! Can’t miss this one!

Infernal Bliss are also a local act that will line up at Karova Lounge on May 13 playing alternative melodic rock. Brianna Seid leads on the vocals and these guys have been busy getting their songs out and about. Hopefully a full house  awaits them when they play in their hometown.

The Miners Rest Tavern and The George Hotel have cover artists playing throughout the week if that’s your thing. And if you didn’t already know, the best Pho in town is next door at the Vietnamese Restaurant to the right side of The George Hotel. My favourite food haunt in town!

Onto watering holes and the Swiss Mountain Hotel and Store is to be found a short drive from Ballarat on the way to Daylesford . Blampied is the actual town to be precise. The oldest licensed weatherboard hotel in Victoria is well worth a drive as the food is also wonderful and the beers on tap are mouth watering enough to keep you there for many hours. Make sure you have a designated driver who has patience!
