A working creative studio, apparel focused shortlist looks to combine the classic aesthetic of women’s fashion and bring it to the forefront for ethical conscious shoppers.
Located in the heart of Geelong West, just off the cultural hub Pakington Street, shortlist sources exclusive artisan garments, home décor and leather accessories from women across the globe. Behind this shop-front are creatives and innovators Tracey van Ingen and Carmen Christy who, fed up with the corporate and clinical fashion industry, looked to create a space that would favour and value an advanced skill set and innovation.
As their autumn and winter stock trickles into their white studio, the classical and contemporary cuts that these women source is evident.
Swing shirts and dresses, silk and embroidered kimonos, paired with chunky knits are the staples for this upcoming season and a showcase of shortlist’s ethos of cultivating fashion that transcends trends and age.
Each piece is its own individual statement, with the ability to take you from coffee with girlfriends to dinner at a classy restaurant.
What makes this small business a diamond however, is that their artisan pieces and homewares are sourced from creative women across the globe.
Tracey travels to Bali four times a year with patterns in tow, and with the help of a Balinese woman who has her own manufacturing business in Indonesia creates these artisan items – ensuring their exclusivity and ethics.
Interior stylist Carmen then sources interior décor pieces from artists both local and international, resulting in an edit that is both simple and stylish.
Even the studio itself reflects their contemporary feel, with a large bench in the middle of the studio that is both a showcase of accessories and apparel and acts as the heart of the store – resembling a kitchen table where women can congregate around and converse over inspirational pieces.
Constantly looking to collaborate with emerging designers, shortlist is ever evolving and a must stop for the modern women – no matter the age or size.
