The 10th Annual Cherry Rock Festival

With Cherry Rock, the ultimate rock festival put on by Cherry Bar, approaching its 10th year, we thought we’d take a look at some of the memories from the years gone by. After all, with festivals coming and going, it’s important we hold on for dear life to the ones we love.

2007: This was the year Cherry Rock as we came to know and love it began. Rocket Science got together for the inaugural event for their first gig in two years, and they were supported by Blood Duster, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, The Five Venoms and more.

2008: As told to ToneDeaf, while one of Brisbane’s toughest rockers SixFt Hick were on stage playing, an excited female fan apparently squirted her breast milk at them…from five metres away.

2010: The line up this year had more of an Australian flavour with Dan Sultan, Mammoth Mammoth, Rose Tattoo and more leading the line up. As soon as Sean Ainsworth from The Fearless Vampire Killers plugged his Rickenbaker he blew everyone’s minds.

2011: Legendary rockers Died Pretty reformed for the first time in three years to perform at the 2011 Cherry Rock festival.

2013: The line up: Unida, Truckfighters, King Parrot, Barbarion, Matt Sonic and High Times, The Murlocs, Mammoth Mammoth, Gay Paris, The Surefire Midnights, The Workinghorse Irons, Drunk Mums, Little Bastard and Battle Axe Howlers.

2014: Cherry Rock made its first appearance at Sydney with Meat Puppets as the headliners. Owner and booker James Young said: “only an imbecile would choose this time to expand and take a 100% rock n festival dominated by the absolute very best Melbourne rock acts into another state.”
But then, he is bringing the Meat Puppets, who were coming to Australia for their first show in 20 years. Let’s not forget they were the band that musically inspired Kurt Cobain.

2015: The end of 2014 saw a neighbour make a noise complaint of the venue after recently moving in, though Cherry Rock was going ahead regardless.

Now: The 10th year brings none other than Richie Ramone to the Cherry Rock stage. The rest of the line up is as follows: Kadavar, Richie Ramone, Supersuckers, Gay Paris, Dallas Frasca, Clowns, Polish Club, Power, Dead City Ruins, Mammoth Mammoth, Devil Electric and Mesa Cosa.

When & Where: AC/DC Lane (next to Cherry Bar), Melbourne – May 1
