Five Things We Love About Beechworth

1. The Location

Beechworth is a true example of the beautiful Australian outback, but we’re talking specifically about the venue itself. Held at the farmland of the now decommissioned lunatic asylum, Mayday Hills. Who knew the natural ampitheatre at the local asylum would play host to such a well-loved regional music festival?

2. The Organisers

We love a bit of music here at Forte, and supporting those littler guys is a pretty important thing for us to. That’s why we love what Beechworth are all about, as they’re one of a few regional festivals giving emerging musicians a go. The key philosophy of the Beechworth Music Festival is to provide local, regional and upcoming young artists with a new opportunity to perform and play alongside a host of acclaimed national musicians

3. The Line Up

Without fail they put together a killer line up of bands, and hammer the point home that regional do it better (maybe we’re bias being a regional publication and all). Previous years have seen the likes of DD Dumbo, Teeth & Tongue, Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, Sun God Replica, My Left Boot, Batpiss, Beaches, Jen Cloher & Band, The Bennies and more. 2016 has carried the trend with; Briggs, King of the North and Public Opinion Six, who will be joined by Big Smoke, My Left Boot, The Sugarcanes, Liv Cartledge & Band, She Wolf, Mutton, Richard Perso, Geoff Jackson, DJ Mermaid and MC Cat McGauran.

4. The Surrounds
For many, heading to Beechworth will be a trip in itself, and that’s why it’s the perfect location as there’s a lot to offer. Aside from an insight into the idealic Australian rural lifestyle, it’s also a key place of history for Ned Kelly, so be sure to check out the winning Burke Museum, Ned Kelly Vault and historic precinct.

5. The Set-Up

Simpler is better, and the serene rolling hills in the background and intimate crowd make for an amazing time. Throw in some incredible local food, some cool drinks and Beechworth Music Festival is rounded up as one of the finest regional music festivals on the calendar.
