Suzannah Espie: Mother's Not Feeling Herself Today

Following on from Sea of Lights was always going to be a monster task. However, Suzannah Espie has definitely delivered with her new album. Inspired by her experiences of motherhood over the past 10 years, Mothers Not Feeling Herself Today tackles one of the hardest issues in Post Natal Depression. However that said, despite the somewhat intense lyrical themes and subjects to this album, Espie has definitely provided one of the albums of the year with perfect country slow burning melodies to each track. ‘What Would You Say’ opens the record and is complimented by some sorrowful string arrangements. In other cases it may seem that it is a slow start to the record, however on this album it isn’t all about being intense right from the get go.
Throughout 45 minutes and over the 10 tracks, you are transported into Espie’s world and it is simple to see this is easily amongst some of her best work. Touring towards the end of the year and playing at Port Fairy Folk Festival in March, we are going to be able to hear and see the live show very soon.
