Australian indie folk music has a new queen. Her name is Domini Forster and her debut record is entitled Raven. Opening with ‘Under Water’, edgy xylophone melodies combined with softly picked guitar and the honey dripped vocals of Forster play out in a great opening track.
Kingswood are no strangers to making sweet arse rock n’ roll. Everyone remembers their absolute ball tearer of a song ‘Ohio’ right? Well they are back with their second album After Hours, Close To Dawn and it’s a big evolution in their sound.
The first noticeable difference between Boris The Blade’s first album The Human Hive and its follow up Warpath, is that the second is a lot clearer.
It’s pretty unique to listen to a band’s debut release and be overwhelmed by nostalgic vibes. Fresh eyed and bushy tailed, the heavily over-driven jangly guitar reminds me of the mosh pit in the groove room at The Nash.
Your Dr Martens scuff the pavement, your vintage levi’s strain at the knee, there is a floral scrunchy around your wrist, and The Courtney’s tune ‘Tour’ blares the fist pumping, hip jerking, lady rock anthem.
When Tim Hulsman released Dead Man’s Garden back in 2014, the excitement in me was running hot. Having seen his solo live show a few times, I was taken by his ability to hook people in with his unique approach to writing lyrics and creating groovy little rootsy melodies.
Carus Thompson is an Australian legend. From his work with The True Believers as well as solo stuff, he has developed over the past 15 years into one of the country’s finest songwriters.
The shining light of Middle Kids debut EP release is Hannah Joy’s faultlessly weaving vocals that go from notes deep within to the high near- a capella notes.
For those who haven’t got around the name Tommy Castles yet, what are you doing? He’s a local Surfcoast muso that is set to kick big goals in 2017 with his new EP Into My Thoughts.
