It’s that time again already? Jeez Louise, let’s dive right in, shall we?! Remember the Taste of Chaos tour that used to make its way around the world each year? Sure you do. It even came to Australia a few times, and featured some of the hottest punk/emo/screamo/metalcore bands of the era, including The Used […]
Iron Reagan are touring! The skate/thrash supergroup, featuring members of Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse and Darkest Hour, tear up the Tote in Collingwood on April 11. And you knooow the merch is going to be killer, so make sure you’re cashed up! Supports on the night come in the form of Join The Amish, Wolfpack and Wet Pensioner!
Anybody escaping our winter this year to check out the massive European music festivals (it’s their summer, doi!)? Could do a lot worse than heading to the Pro Vinssi Rock Festival in Finland, running from June 24-27 with an eclectic lineup that includes everybody from prog rock heroes Muse to Faith No More (who seem to be EVERYWHERE these days).
There’s a humongous festival happening at Tempe Beach Park in Tempe, Florida, on the 4th of April. Why do I keep plugging these huge overseas events? Because some of the line-ups are just too incredible to not at least mention, and are totally worth contemplating, especially if you like to travel. The line-up for this particular shindig needs to be seen to be believed!
So, it’s 2015 already … WTF? Where have I been?! Y’all ready to do this? Okay, so while we’re gearing up for the festival onslaught (hello Soundwave and, for some of us, Future Music Festival), overseas punters are buying tickets to THEIR upcoming festivals in record numbers. So this issue, I’m gonna give you all the skinny on the awesome things coming up that you may not be aware of.
Lagwagon’s newie, Hang, is finally out, and boy howdy, it’s a corker – easily the best thing they’ve recorded in years. Have you got your copy yet? And most importantly, will you be seeing these bad bitches at Soundwave? You better be, because they’re one of the very few punk bands on the bill, alongside the incredible live powerhouse that is New Found Glory!
So many awesome bands releasing new records in the lead up to Soundwave, and one that I’m particularly looking forward to is Hang, the newie from Lagwagon. Judas Priest and New Found Glory have also just dropped killer new records, so there’s going to be a LOT of happy punters that weekend!
This issue, no hanging crap on the hipsters, boy bands and acoustic guitar-playing busker types infiltrating the punk scene – I promise … mostly because this column is no place for them to begin with. Somebody ask Henry Rollins what he thinks of acoustic guitars. He’ll probably tell you they’re only good for smacking hippies with.
Well, The Shadow League, Bricks, Admiral Ackbar’s Dishonourable Discharge, Nurnberger, I Am Duckeye, Liquor Snatch, Bombs Are Falling and The Fckups have all just been added to the line-up for the Vic leg of the Up the Punx! festival. They’ll be joining Cult Killers (NSW), Strawberry Fist Cake, Hopes Abandoned, Glen and the Peanut Butter Men, Citywide Wildcats, the Murderballs and the Revengers (Bendigo) at The Tote in Collingwood on the 11th of October. Yowza!
